After obtaining her PhD from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2007, Dr. Heather Brown has worked in both faculty and administrative roles, including as a lecturer and advisor in Biology at San Jose State University and Sacramento State University. From 2010 – 2014, Dr. Brown served as Director of the North Valley Biotechnology Center at American River College in Sacramento, California, as well as the Interim Dean of Biotechnology in 2013.
From 2008 – 2010, Dr. Brown was a Postdoctoral Scholar with Bill Mobley MD, PhD and Yanmin Yang MD, PhD at Stanford University, Neuroscience Institute, working to understand the molecular mechanism of signaling endosome regulation in neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Brown now focuses her scholarly research in the areas of molecular neurobiology and science education. Throughout her career, Dr. Brown has been awarded support for her efforts, including funding from the National Science Foundation, the Adler Foundation, and the Lucile Packard Foundation. Her professional affiliations include memberships in the Council for Undergraduate Research, American Women in Science (AWIS), and the American Society for Cell Biology.
