As the Director of Scholarly Projects and Undergraduate Research, Dr. Heather Brown is no stranger to scientific inquiry. Her research experience (including post-doctoral work at Stanford University) include:

  • Whale behavior patterns in the St. Lawrence Estuary of Quebec
  • The development and population distribution of the native oyster, O. concaphila, in the San Francisco Bay (Implications for use as a bioindicator)
  • Mitotic spindle formation and function regulation in sea urchin and Drosophila embryonic cell division
  • Developmental Neurobiology in C. elegans -- How neurons properly sort and transport synaptic components
  • Understanding the pathology of Alzheimer's disease and Down Syndrome using mouse models -- The molecular and cellular basis of dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases

Dr. Brown's current teaching and research focuses on molecular and cellular Biology, Neurobiology, and Research Methods. She is also a leader of the Biology Education to Careers (BETC) program, which engages students in the North and Central Valley regions with science-based activities.
