Service Learning

Service Learning is such a critical learning component that CHS requires it of all undergraduate students. The CHS offers a unique one-year approach: The first semester combines academic studies, experiential learning, and professional development prior to placement in a community agency. The subsequent semester includes meaningful work in the community with a concurrent course to support students as they move from theory into practice.

To best connect the field with the classroom, CHS service learning focuses on:

  • Clear connections between health care and the service activity
  • Frameworks to help students understand cultural competence, social justice, and health competence
  • Community-identified needs or opportunities

Partner with us! Our service learning community partners provide relevant information, guidance, and expertise needed for the student projects. If your organization would like to partner with the College of Health Sciences, please email Tereza.Joy.Kramer@csnu.edu and Gloria.Poveda@cnsu.edu.
